You're concerned about potential issues if you switch from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. It's wise to consider waiting until Windows 10 is more stable before upgrading, especially if you're worried about bugs. Since you already have a Start menu on Windows 8.1, it seems you don't mind that feature.

I have some good news for you. You don’t need to purchase Windows 10 if you’re upgrading from a licensed version of Windows 7, 8, or 8.1. The upgrade is completely free and you’ll have a year to enjoy it, so feel free to wait if you’re not sure.

I would upgrade because it offers many great features. It's been tested and should have few issues.

You have one year to wait before it grows—I’d just take it since dx12 lul.

It hasn't been released yet. We're still uncertain.

Changes are necessary, which is a major concern for me. Picture a scenario where an update damages your GPU drivers and you can't refuse. If a registry workaround solves the issue, I'd likely adopt it; DirectX12 seems promising.
