due to how in-place upgrades often fail, the references DISM relies on for file versions become unreliable. it’s similar to attempting to restore a kitcar to its original model but not knowing whether it was a Volkswagen or a Ford, since components appear in both places.

Needed a complete reset. It actually functioned, which means I’ll have to redo everything this month... Not the disaster I thought it would be. It’s going to take a long time to get used to the start menu—it seems they never mentioned it, and it ain’t broken, just needs fixing. For those who offered help: for those who tried to switch this into Linux versus Windows, just remember—we’re still in the middle of it.
