Upgrade to version 11
Upgrade to version 11
Considering an upgrade from W10 to W11 might be worthwhile, but it depends on your needs. If you're mainly using your PC for gaming and don’t require advanced features, sticking with Linux could be a good option. Otherwise, check compatibility and benefits before deciding.
Win 11 runs smoothly without any driver or game problems. Choose Linux if you prefer, but it may not match Windows in gaming stability.
Windows 11 offers improvements over Windows 10, such as enhanced scheduling for mixed processors and Auto HDR support. Unless you specifically require those features and don’t mind the visual changes, upgrading might not be worthwhile. The new interface still has its drawbacks, but it’s functional with some adjustments. Make sure your games run smoothly on Linux before deciding.
Using W10 allows for a dual-boot setup with Linux, which is a bit outdated but works for me, while W11 didn't work out.
That's one way of putting it, I personally consider it less intuitive, but then 10 was going that way too. I'd say if you're impartial to the UI difference that's a good reason to upgrade. You have to do it eventually anyway, games will start using DirectStorage which is meant to work better on 11. For gaming I'd say definitely go to 11, Linux is only worthwhile if you don't need any proprietary software and a royal PITA for gaming, even if it is better than it used to be. Last I checked there is zero difference between 10/11 dual booting. Same rules apply as always, if you want it to be easy you have to install Windows first so Linux can add the shim to the Windows boot loader.
Both versions include the annoying settings app (they should have kept everything in the control panel, but they tried to simplify by moving most settings to a less intuitive app). Windows 11 offers a more uniform visual style, which I find more comfortable. Plus, the dark mode task manager alone makes me want an upgrade—no more struggling in the dark!
If you're planning to reinstall, it's fine, but why do it right now? You won't really see any changes, and you can always upgrade later. Most reports suggest DirectStorage should perform similarly on both versions, so it doesn't offer much benefit either way.
The settings app performs well on 11, yet remains a limited choice compared to the full capabilities of the Control Panel. It seems to restrict certain features, such as preventing static IP setup without a gateway and DNS server, which is a legitimate configuration.
