Used a Ryzen 5 1600 for years on a GIGABYTE AB350-Gaming 3 board. Updated BIOS and chipset as needed for a Ryzen 5 3600 upgrade. RAM is 3200, downclocked to 2666 per first-gen Ryzen guidelines, now running at 3200 for the 3600. I can run Cinebench without issues, but occasional blue screens appear, especially during restarts. What should I do to boost stability? Could there be a problem with my setup? Is the board too limited, need another update, or is the RAM speed incorrect? I recall blue screens when my 1600 had wrong RAM speed, though I believed 3200 was right. Thanks for any advice.
I applied the standard XMP profile for RAM. To reach 2666 MHz I had to tweak both CPU and memory settings, maybe testing one change at a time would help.
It appears the first bios backs the 3600, while the overall latest bios is more recent. The chipset drivers are from AMD (new), not Gigabyte (old). It uses the PassMark RamMon model.
To keep things steady you’ll have to adjust the clocks and voltages, since each motherboard is unique. The standard XMP settings often don’t fit every setup because they were mainly validated on stronger boards. My RAM is 16GB at 3600MHz, but it only worked reliably at 3000MHz around the 17th frequency.
I installed the newest version, AGESA V2 1.2.0.8. The previous driver only worked with the third generation Ryzen, but I was facing problems, so I thought an update would help. I received BIOS updates from GIGABYTE for their motherboard and new chipset updates from AMD. RAM configuration is F4-3200C16D-16GVKB, g.skill ripjaws V 2x8 GB 3200 MHz DDR4. It seems QVL isn't working technically for the 3600, though it functioned well on the first generation. This might be the issue, though it's frustrating if confirmed. I don't know what PassMark RamMon or Thaiphoon Burner are.
I haven't actually tried it again, but since I used it yesterday and never faced any problems, I'd say it works.
Verified frequency compatibility for both motherboard and CPU. Dropped to 2666 but still shows BSOD. RAM appears not to be the issue. 2666 seems adequate for the older generation. 3600s may be sensitive to memory settings—consider adjusting timings or keeping the base clock at 2133.
