Upgrade to Ryzen 2700X for a lower price or opt for the 3600 model?
I’m looking into switching to 2700X or 3600 from your current i3 7100. In my area, 2700X is roughly $15 less than the $200 3600. I’d appreciate any insights on how these chips might perform differently.
If you don't have access to 16 threads, the 3600X is a better choice due to its superior single-core performance. Both chips work adequately for gaming, though it depends on your graphics card.
I chose a 2700 for that project, but I also work on video editing, recording, and gaming.
The price gap is almost insignificant, depending on your needs. For heavy video editing and streaming or recording, the 8T/16T 2700X is better suited. If gaming is your focus, the 3600 offers quicker performance, though you probably won’t regret choosing either option.
Including the motherboard would increase the price gap since it offers a discount. I’m picking the MSI B450 A PRO MAX. This means my 2700X setup at $265 would be 12% less than the 3600 model at $305, saving me up to $40.
