Hey there, I’m looking to upgrade my i5-4460 while keeping it in the same generation and keeping costs low. My motherboard is a H97m Pro4 with two 4GB 1600MHz RAM sticks and an RX 570 4GB card that I got a year ago. In intense games like Warzone, I get smooth performance and solid frame rates (around 70+), but sometimes it stutters when you try to shoot fast. I’m browsing AliExpress for compatible CPUs but not sure what to focus on—should I go for higher clock speeds or maybe Broadwell models? There are even Xeons out there, but I’m still figuring things out. Thanks for your help!
The issue lies with the i7 models in that generation, which still command a high price—around 100 or more—and represent the only upgrade worth considering. The xeon options are slightly cheaper but any 4c/8t CPU on your system will likely exceed 100$. Any 4-core or 8-core processor will be over 100$, making it a costly choice. The K series is also an option, though they come at a higher price and cannot be overclocked. Their xeon counterparts are viable too. Remember, if your stock i5 cooler isn’t sufficient for these CPUs, you’ll need to upgrade. Unless you can locate a reasonably priced 4c/8t CPU that matches or beats your i5’s clock speed, it wouldn’t be worth the investment in this older platform.
Warzone offers a solid balance compared to a full platform upgrade. It runs smoothly at 4.8Ghz with a 4C8T 4790K, handling 70-80% GPU usage and maintaining stable performance even on high-end GPUs. The settings are competitive, especially in 1080p, though frame rates dip to 125-144fps during intense gameplay. Performance varies across different modes, but it’s generally reliable for typical multiplayer sessions. The 4790K isn’t a perfect fix, but with a mid-range GPU, it should suffice. If you’re on a budget and your GPU caps at 60-90fps, it works fine; otherwise, upgrading to a platform might be worth considering.
