The straightforward response is clearly a 3700x. But for curiosity, what kind of motherboard do you own and how much fun do you get working with BIOS settings? Z170 boards aren't officially compatible with 8000 or 9000 series components. Still, some enthusiasts have reported success with BIOS modifications on certain boards. If you're comfortable with that, consider exploring them. Otherwise, stick with the 3700x—it's more forgiving if you're not confident.
