It’s a good time of day. I’m not very familiar with technology, but I have some basic knowledge. A few months ago I purchased a prebuilt PC (Asus G11CD with GTX 1060, 6GB VRAM, 8GB RAM and the i5-7400 processor). Later I upgraded my graphics card to an RTX 2070 and increased RAM to 16GB. Over time I’ve noticed stuttering in games, which turned out to be caused by my CPU running near full capacity. I understand I should consider upgrading, but I’m unsure which CPU would work with my motherboard. From what I found, the board is called G11CD-KO and there’s limited information about it. I’d really appreciate help from someone more experienced.

You should likely be able to run an i7-7700 there, though it comes at a higher cost. You might want to switch to a Ryzen 3600 motherboard and CPU for a much improved performance.

You might consider switching to the i5-7600 or i7-7700—they'll outperform the 7400 but won't match Ryzen or modern options, particularly if you need long-term compatibility (in that case, heed Mister Woof's suggestions). Since these systems use a mATX motherboard, upgrading to Ryzen would require checking for the correct form factor. Additionally, it's a good idea to upgrade your power supply as well, given your likely 500W unit.

I’d avoid any setup identical to yours—just a few hundred MHz won’t change much—but upgrading to an i7 would unlock hyperthreading, which becomes more important in multi-core processors.

I checked Intel's site for the I5-7400 and noticed it uses the FCLGA1151 connector. Looking through compatible options, you should match its power limits unless your board supports more than 65W. For gaming purposes, consider a Ryzen processor like the Ryzen 5 1600 AF ($85) or Ryzen 5 2600 ($120). The 2600 offers similar performance to the 1600 but at roughly half the price, or the Ryzen 5 3600 ($185) for better performance and higher frame rates.
