Upgrade to a more powerful processor model
Upgrade to a more powerful processor model
Hello everyone, my graphics card (Gigabyte HD 7770) failed after nine years, likely due to a faulty cable. I’m considering an upgrade to CPU, motherboard, and RAM together with the GPU. Anything over 1050 Ti will cause bottlenecks, and it needs to handle the 3440x1440 resolution of the LG 34UM95. Right now I have an ASUS P8P67 with a 2500k i5 (stock speed), 8GB DDR3 GSKILL Ares, a 500W BeQuiet PSU, and a Define R5 case. My budget is $800-1000, aiming for a GPU in the $300-350 range. Looking forward to your suggestions!
My suggestion based on a $1000 budget and reusing your previous setup, but without premium storage: PCPartPicker list includes an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-core processor ($174.99 at B&H), MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX ATX AM4 motherboard ($114.99 at B&H), G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB DDR4-3600 memory ($84.99 at Newegg), Crucial P1 1 TB M.2-2280 NVMe SSD ($109.99 at Adorama), and a PowerColor Radeon RX 5700 XT 8 GB card ($379.99 at Amazon). The power supply is Corsair CX 650W ATX (80+ Bronze) from Newegg). Overall cost comes to $949.94, covering shipping, taxes, and available discounts. If you already possess high-speed storage, consider skipping the $100 savings.
Thanks for the update. I don’t have the exact PSU model details and can’t access it at the moment. I’ll keep my case. Appreciate you highlighting the storage components—I’ll add an M2 now. Currently, I have several Kingston A400 SSDs and WB Black 1TB HDDs connected, which should work fine.
As an alternative, you can access broader options and enhanced motherboard capabilities. Right now you're using your current storage for this build.

It seems the B450 chipset isn't compatible with PCIe 4.0 for this GPU. That could be a key factor affecting performance.
It doesn't seem necessary. The B450 works well with the 3700X, though I think it might be worth upgrading to more features if you choose the Ryzen 7. I’m aware that the PCIe4 can help in some situations, but it mainly applies to the 5600X using PCIe 8x instead of 16x, which was an exception.
