Hello, I'm looking to upgrade my CPU but don't know which one to pick. I'm currently using Octoprint while gaming and the CPU is getting strained because it's used heavily. My budget is around $500 without any sales. If I can afford a new motherboard, would that be a better option than another CPU that fits the same socket? Also, I need help figuring out the price of a suitable CPU at this point. I'm running 1080p at 144Hz with Forza 5, Valorant, Discord, and Google Chrome.

If your motherboard can handle it without problems, the 9900K makes a solid in-socket upgrade. Otherwise, the 12th gen Intel looks strong. Switching to the 12600(K)(F) would be a major step up.

Wouldn't it make more sense to purchase a Raspberry Pi Zero for $15 or a Raspberry Pi 4 for $50 to run Octoprint instead of upgrading your existing setup? For $485 or $475, including a mail-in rebate could provide a 12600k and a Z690 motherboard. You can reuse the memory. The only changes available on your current platform are the 9700/K and 9900/K models.
