I think it's time to move up my setup. A few USB ports aren't working and SATA 3 is outdated. Since my current games work fine, I'm not spending too much. Would you suggest switching to a better motherboard or just getting a newer M.2 slot?

Considering a fresh CPU and motherboard upgrade sounds smart. Just improving the motherboard isn’t enough for significant gains. Do you know your budget?

Not much concern, just hoping to use only what's necessary.

Forza Horizon 4, Assetto Corsa (occasionally in VR), GTA 5, modern warfare simulations, CAD (combined with fusion and various lightweight 3D visuals), modded Minecraft and Minecraft servers.

I think you own the GTX 970. The Ryzen 5 1600 should work well with your GPU. Because the graphics card is older, you don’t want to limit its performance too much. CPU link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-Ryzen-1600-...06XNRQHG4/ Mobo link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-B450M-PRO-M...07W838JXD/ Let me know if this fits your budget or if you prefer a more affordable option. P.S. The first three games there are great!

Thanks for the suggestion. It seems the FX-8320 is priced similarly to a 1600 model. That doesn’t make much sense, but I won’t be complaining.

I hadn't even thought about it. But the 1600 will be better.

The MOBO prices remain high for the AM3, which could mean I might only manage around $90.
