Everyone’s chatting about Intel’s price drops, so I’m thinking about moving up to a 11700k. Not sure if it’s a good move. The setup is mainly for gaming and streaming, so any changes would just be CPU and motherboard swaps. I’m asking the group for their thoughts—should we go ahead or hold off?

It’s nearly identical to reaching 9900K without needing a motherboard change. What would the price be? Also, skip the upgrade if your setup already works well—these parts are quite costly.

I think the 9700K remains a solid CPU choice, and the 11700K performs similarly to the 9900K—no major leap compared to the 9700K as discussed earlier.

the only situation i'd think this upgrade makes sense is with a 3090/6900xt (if you're playing games), even then the 11700k isn't the top choice for gaming, the 5900x and 5950x are better. There are also reports that some 11700k models struggle to overclock well (the 11900k is mostly limited).
