Upgrade the Ryzen 7 7800X3D to a higher performance model from 9900K.
Hello everyone! Upgrading from an i9 9900K to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D makes sense. PS: I’ll still have my RTX 3080 for a couple more years. Here’s what I’ve got: Intel Core i9 9900K with 8GB RAM, Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200, and an Asus ROG Strix 750W PSU. I’m using the H100i Pro and Corsair MP600 Pro. Storage includes a 1TB SSD, a 500GB Samsung 860 EVO, and a Crucial BX500. The monitor is a Be Quiet! Pure Base 500.
I purchased an RTX 4080 but faced issues with my 9900k even after overclocking it to 5.1ghz on all cores. Games frequently stuttered and displayed low frame rates. Titles like Tiny Tina's Wonderland, Hell Let Loose, Dying Light 2, and Metro Exodus were problematic. After switching to the 7700x (the X3D wasn’t available at the time), the stuttering disappeared. I saw a noticeable boost in average FPS, especially in the lower ranges, with much smoother performance. The biggest gains came in the 1% and 0.1% frames. Previously, the 9900k struggled to keep up with the 4080—it was essentially a Skylake from 2015. For demanding titles, an upgrade would definitely enhance your experience even with a 3080. I’m running a 750W Corsair PSU for both the 7700x and RTX 4080, and I’m using the LG27GP850-B monitor. The 7800X3D should handle any GPU you install in a few years.
