We’re considering a switch to a new setup versus simply swapping the GPU. The device was bought and put together in late 2020.

Estimated Purchase Date: As soon as possible
Budget Range: $1,500

Usage Priority (from most to least important):
Gaming mainly for RPGs, Simulators/Builders, and RTS titles (such as cp2077, bg3, coh3, anno series, human, hitman, sniper elites, wh40k rogue trader, mass effect, etc.), Roll20, and watching various entertainment content.

Monitor situation:
No, I’m using an MSI 271cqr monitor.

Upgrade components:
GPU replacement or a near-new build (try to salvage what’s available, like the case and fans).

OS purchase:
Not sure about this.

Preferred parts sources:
No strong preference, currently checking Micro Center but not committed. Not very familiar with US retailers.

Location:
Houston, Texas, US.

Preferred brand preferences:
If only upgrading the GPU, MSI is preferred; otherwise open to MSI or ASUS. Open to other suggestions, especially if a rebuild is recommended.

Overclocking:
Not interested in doing it myself.

SLI or Crossfire:
Possibly consider.

Monitor resolution:
1920x1080 or 1920x1200, as I think.

Additional notes:
No specific requirements.

Main reason for upgrade:
Playing Baldur’s Gate 3 caused the system to crash repeatedly. The desktop would crash during gameplay, and after restarting it would display a “no signal” message on the monitor. I tested multiple cables and tried turning off and unplugging, but nothing changed. It seems the GPU is likely dead.

Current hardware:
- Intel i7 10700 CPU
- MSI MPG Z490 gaming plus MB
- Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200MHz RAM
- MSI RTX 2080 Super 8GB GPU
- Lian Li Galahad AIO 360 liquid cooler
- Corsair LL120 3fan kit
- Corsair TX850 Gold PSU

Check the monitor connection by plugging it into the motherboard and testing if it works. If it does, avoid buying a new card right away. Instead, try an old one or borrow one from a friend.

Replace the video card by removing and reinstalling it, ensuring the power cables are properly connected to both the card and the power supply.

I removed the GPU completely and attempted to connect the monitor to the motherboard. No improvement. Still no signal. I reassembled using a disconnect and reconnect method, but no signal was detected. I don't have an older card and can't borrow one.

you can always start with a different GPU and check if it meets your needs. the 4070 super works well for 1080p.

I recommend identifying the problem first before choosing a new PC or upgrade. It might be a straightforward fix that could save you 1500 dollars for better parts later. Consider posting another forum thread in the systems section with your issue and relevant details to help others understand the situation.
