Upgrade the MacBook by resolving remote management issues during installation.
Checked the Mac Address video on refurbished machines and chose to give it a shot. I located a solid offer on a refurbished base model M2 MacBook Air and planned to install macOS for the first time. However, when trying to set it up and connect to Wi-Fi, the system warns it’s remote managed by “unknown” and the cloud server is down, blocking further steps. Is there a method to skip this remote setup securely, or should I attempt a return? It’s currently running macOS Sonoma.
Sometimes the seller might try to remove it, but that hasn't happened much for me. I often purchase refurbished iPhones and sometimes find ones still in MDM mode. About half the time I need Amazon to step in because the seller doesn't know what they're dealing with. The worst scenario is receiving an Apple device that wasn't taken from ADE but was removed from their MDM. When you turn it on, it appears normal and shows up as a new device in their MDM. People might ignore it or block it, and if you reset the laptop, it becomes locked. I'm not sure how to verify this without adding it to your own MDM.
