Upgraded from i7-960 to a i7-14700k. Bought the mobo from Amazon used ($154) and the CPU from Microcenter ($370). Mainly because of a copy of Elden Ring I could never play, getting back into WoW and all the BG3 accolades from 2023. No video card yet, so waiting on some deals for 2024.
Kept the same case (Antec Sonata III), but cut out drive bays to make way for a lengthy card.
Upgrades:
Mobo: EVGA X58 SLI FTW3 to ASRock Riptide PG Z790
Memory: DDR 3 8GB to DDR5 32GB
Video Card: GTX 570 to ???
Power: 600 to 750
SSD Drives: SATA EVO 850/860
Win10 to Win11

Certainly, you'll definitely see a change.
A good method is to build a project in pcpartpicker, include the GPUs you're curious about, and configure price notifications.

What is the model of your power supply unit? This will determine the maximum strength of graphics cards you can use. Regarding particular cards, you should aim for a substantial improvement in performance or else you might be let down. Generally, you'll receive good value regardless of the price. Steer clear of the most heavily overclocked factory versions. Tom's GPU hierarchy chart can assist in categorizing cards: Search for options in the GTX4000 class or higher. Since you're comfortable with the NVIDIA driver system, I recommend sticking with NVIDIA.

Consider investing in a case with airflow to enhance component performance.

Yes, I have started all my temperature monitoring applications. Should the problem be related to the graphics card, I will make a replacement.

the XPG Reactor II is a solid choice. I recommend keeping an eye on potential discounts for the vanilla 4070. It seems like a solid investment for 1080p in the long run if the price reaches about 430 USD. You might also want to check the used market. A more affordable option could be the RX6750XT or the 6700XT.
