Upgrade suggestions for LGA 1151 processors
I've noticed your i5-2400 is showing signs of aging. The performance limits are being reached, and my planned upgrade to an i5-6600k is on the table. I'm considering a switch to a motherboard that supports DDR3 memory, as higher-end RAM isn't within my budget. My current build runs Windows 10 and is used for gaming, browsing, and developing a Unreal Engine project in a 16-bit style. Since I'm not a graphics enthusiast, I prefer a balanced setup rather than top-tier visuals. A mid-range board should handle everything smoothly, from modern devices to older models without hiccups. I want my system to work well for me and others, so it should perform consistently across all platforms. I've attached a photo of an unmodified 8200 Elite, which has been modified to accommodate a smaller graphics card. Let me know your thoughts!
Your overall budget seems tight for this kind of project. It would be hard to just swap the board without more funds. I wouldn't pay 6600k, especially since official support isn't available for DDR3. Buying an older CPU isn't ideal; it's better to invest a bit more in DDR4 and get a stronger processor and system. An 8GB DDR4 setup is quite reasonable now. You might also consider an i7-2600 if you can find it cheap, or opt for a newer used office computer.
