I just purchased a 5070 for an incredible price and it’s actually better than what I thought I’d need. My CPU struggles with high refresh rate games, dropping frames compared to my friend who has a 3060 but a Ryzen 9. That’s not okay. My motherboard is an older B450, so I didn’t expect switching to AM4 to be a big change. But the 5500 or 7600 would likely perform better—roughly around $700 for a new board, DDR5 RAM, and a solid cooler. That said, my current setup uses budget components that are cheapest in their class, while the newer options are decent to midrange (TUF motherboard, quiet tower cooler, 32GB RAM). Upgrading would be a nice step up in both speed and features. Should I go for it now, or wait until the B450 becomes outdated and my 5070 loses its appeal? Or should I stick with what I have and just keep buying cheaper parts? I’m also considering a Ryzen 7, but that’s $500—what do you think?

You can apply a 5700X3D drop for 429 AUD, or take the full AM5 path for 800 AUD with the combo. Check for any deals. No Intel mentioned. For comparison, a 5600/5600x might be better than a 5500, especially if you bought the 5500 to cover costs. Also, the 7600 outperforms the 5500 significantly.
