Upgrade Power Supply for Dell Optiplex 7040 Mini Tower.
Upgrade Power Supply for Dell Optiplex 7040 Mini Tower.
Hello, My father's gaming PC stopped working properly recently, so we connected online and bought a new machine that we could install a GPU on easily. It has an i5 6600, 16 gigabytes of RAM, and a 240 watt power supply. We added an Asus GT 1030 inside it and it's been functioning fairly well. However, my dad wants to play a game called Anno 1800 and the GT 1030 isn't quite enough. I'm thinking about upgrading the GPU but know the PSU is the main issue. Would anyone know if there are any replacement options for the 240 watt power supply? Thanks! I'm not after anything extreme, just something like a GTX 1050 or GTX 1650.
The estimated power requirements are listed for each card:
GTX 1050: 75w (for a TI series card)
GTX 1650: 100w (for a SUPER series card)
If the rest of the system is standard, a 500w-600w power supply should suffice and perform excellently. Make sure it has a gold certification and consider modular connections for easier installation.
Not so fast! In an Optiplex 7040 MT model, it's just 12v only, and the power supply has unique dimensions. You won't fit a generic 500-600w ATX PSU in its place.
Yes, I understand. I was just trying to clarify for him. I recall you mentioned mid tower, but could you specify which type is correct? For example, if the SID says micro, then we should focus on that.
