Upgrade PC excluding GPU to AM5
Upgrade PC excluding GPU to AM5
Hello,
I own my PC since 2016 with a Core i7 6700K processor. The only changes I've made recently are related to storage and the GPU (3090). Now I'm planning an upgrade to AM5 with either 9900X or 9800X3D, so your advice would be appreciated.
Approximate Purchase Date: this week
Budget Range: 700 - 900
Prefer lower if possible (already have CPU and GPU)
Primary Uses: Autodesk (architectural work), Adobe, gaming, surfing the internet, watching movies – all tasks are similar for me
Are you buying a monitor?
No
Parts to Upgrade: M.2, RAM, cooler, PSU, case
Do you need to buy an operating system?
No
Preferred Websites for Parts: newegg.com, amazon, microless (I live in Saudi Arabia; some components aren’t available and prices are higher due to 15% tax)
Location: Saudi Arabia
Parts Preferences: it doesn’t matter
Overclocking: maybe
Monitor Resolution: 4K
Additional Notes:
Please suggest a motherboard that won’t slow down my M.2s over time. I currently have two M.2 drives (one 4x4 and one 3x4) and plan to upgrade to 5x4 or 4x4 in the future, plus a 2.5 SATA SSD. I’ve noticed some boards throttle PCIe Gen 5 with multiple drives due to lane sharing – I can’t find a reliable option.
My goal is to eventually upgrade to a 6090, so I want no bandwidth limits or power shortages for the PSU. I checked motherboard specs on a Reddit thread, but many have speed restrictions for PCIe and M.2 with Gen 5. I need something future-proof and with good VRM.
Also, I’d like everything to be RGB-free, and the case should fit three HDDs and one SATA SSD bay without being too bulky. I currently use a Corsair 760T, but it doesn’t provide optimal airflow or size.
Most importantly, why are you upgrading?
My PC is becoming sluggish and isn’t performing well, even during gaming.
Thank you in advance, and sorry for the lengthy message!
Board links available at the provided Amazon URLs.
Cooler options can be found on the same Amazon page.
RAM and case products are listed under CorSAIR-Vengeance on Amazon.sa.
I handled the task according to your advice on selecting mobos, focusing on matching specifications and current prices in the attached images.
Would you still recommend it compared to the alternatives based on the data and pricing?
Also, regarding the cooler needed for high-end processors—please let me know.
Thank you for your time.
The VRM components on that board perform very well. https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-X670E-TOMAHAWK-WIFI
