You currently own the HP Pavilion 15-ec0xxx with an AMD Ryzen 5 3550 H, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650. Recent performance issues have prompted you to consider upgrading the RAM and SSD to improve speed. You're debating whether to upgrade the existing laptop or purchase a new one.

It largely depends on the laptop's age and your intended use. For gaming, even the type of games affects performance. With a budget in mind, I’m inclined to invest in a fresh device.

I’m planning to boost the RAM to 16GB and replace it with an SSD, as you suggested. The main reason I’d consider swapping would be if the issues stem from components I can’t replace. Software problems exist because HP doesn’t fully support certain models. Switching to an SSD would significantly enhance performance, and adding 16GB of RAM makes a huge difference. I’m also pretty sure this laptop has an M.2 port.

It depends on whether your RAM usage has stayed high often (it likely has) and if you prefer faster performance over an SSD. If not, consider replacing your HDD with the SSD suggested below.
