I was hoping to play games but I’m currently using an i3 6100 with an r9 380 and 4gb RAM. I found a new PC built around the core i5 2500 or swapped my i3 6100 and r9 380 for an i5 6600k plus some money to get a GTX 1060.

So are you considering building a second PC for streaming games on your main system or upgrading your current setup to handle both gaming and streaming? If it’s the latter, then:

Streaming with an i5 6600k and GTX 1060 could work fine for less demanding, older titles. Modern games might struggle as an i5 won’t provide enough power, so I’d suggest a secondary PC for streaming. While the 6600k and GTX 1060 will run games significantly better than your current i3 or 380, an i5 2500 would be sufficient for a streaming setup.

If you’re curious, the i3 6100 actually performs much better in games compared to an i5 2500.
