Upgrade now?
Upgrade now?
Hello there, I am asking myself if now is the right time tu upgrade my rig. My CPU (I5 3570k) is getting dated, and my MB is showing its age by having SATA ports not working anymore. Considering performance, I could still wait. The last big movie editing project is done (although it was pretty anoying, as timeline performance, even at 1080p was quite bad), and I don't have the next one on the horizont yet. If I upgrade now, I would have about 400€ to spend. My choice would be a ryzen 5 3600. The question is: should I upgrade now, or wait for the next gen of CPUs to arrive? I do a bit of gaming, mostly KSP, with some PUBG and CSGO. I think the games would benefit from the new CPU, but I can play them acceptable fashion on my rig right now, so there is no hassle. BTW, I have a GTX970 in my rig, and I game in 1080p 60hz. Thanks for your advice
Wait until Black Friday or Cyber Monday to discover the top CPU/MBOO deals within your budget. Keep in mind the cost of RAM; a 4-8 gigabit stick for a few months isn’t too bad, and selling your old hardware or parts can boost your budget or let you trade for better components.
I believe the upgrade is a strong idea, but I’d wait until you’re ready or look for a favorable offer. Unless you’re eager like me, who jumped into that upgrade today from a Xeon 1231-v3 simply because I didn’t want to wait.
Well, I think it’s time you began checking prices and considering upgrades, especially after jumping from an i5-2500k to a Ryzen 3700X. Although I might have delayed the upgrade a bit more, my system kept rebooting unexpectedly and showing instability. That pushed me to move things along. I’m not sure exactly when the next generation of CPUs will come, but the 3700X should keep me running for another six years—probably just needing a GPU update now and then. (My 2500k lasted eight years!)
