Upgrade Memory Specifications - Increasing from 32GB to 64GB
I've been trying to increase my system's memory from 32gb to 64gb. The installation process is straightforward, but I'm encountering frequent blue screens and instability. From my research, it seems the timing settings are likely the issue. I've checked various memory timings without success. I've included a photo of my current setup, which has been working well before the upgrade. Here are some additional system details you might find useful: ASUS B650-A Gaming Wifi AMD Ryzen 7 7700x Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB-6000 CL36 (upgrading with the same kit), Samsung 980 Pro 2TB M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0.
Adding another pair of sticks might be the issue, making it hard to reach four sticks quickly. I chose 2x32 to prevent that problem. It may require slowing down a bit for stability.
Yeah, adding 2 sticks.. I'm trying to find that sweet spot with timings and speed. I can get the system stable at 4000 mhz, any higher then I start crashing. I was hoping I could get to at least 4600 with some lose timings. Was hoping someone had a few pointers so I don't have to play around with timings/speed for ages. I realize now I should of just went with 2 sticks of 32gb, but when I built the system DDR5 was still relatively expensive.
What BIOS version are you running? I'm using 4x16GB on my AOURS Pro AX and 7800X3D (6000CL36 G. Skill). The BIOS is dated August 28 F32A. Corsair RAM might be the problem, as it doesn't perform as well compared to G. Skill RAM according to this forum.
It would be my recommendation as well... using two sticks is more stable than four. Additionally, verify the complete kit model number—there might be two kits sharing the same MT/s and CAS latency but differing in dies.
CL36 memory isn't usually suggested at first; that's why I chose the CL30 kit instead. Also, having four sticks often causes issues—they don't always function properly.
You can purchase a 2x32GB unit and resell the 2x16GB version on the used marketplace.
Alright, we're in agreement. MC included it with 36, so I picked a matching set to add. Good that the X3D chips aren't as dependent on CL as the rest. I believe 4x 6000cl30 should still function. Possibly timing matters.
It can require a lot of manual adjustments to get it running properly, and even then you're unlikely to be completely confident in its stability. My latest version is the most seamless and reliable build I've ever created, making the extra expense worthwhile. (After realizing ASUS isn't the best choice and I needed the EXPO II profile instead of EXPO I, which wouldn't post)
It's surprising most people didn't check the support site for valid configurations. A 4 x 16 GB setup requires single-sided dimming, not dual-sided (single rank). They should be running at CL40 unless the exact same model from support specifies different timing requirements.
