Upgrade Intel 9th generation system
Upgrade Intel 9th generation system
With the release of the RTX 30 series, I've managed to budget for upgrades like a new monitor, CPU, and GPU. I'm not yet set on a monitor but plan to get a 3080 (finally) with either a 9700k or 9900k. There seems to be some advantage in choosing a 9900k over the 9700k right now. Currently, I have a 9400f paired with a Z390 UHD and I'm keen on maximizing its potential through overclocking. Any recommendations between 9700k and 9900k would be appreciated. For monitors, what models do you suggest? Thanks!
The 9900k is priced around $379 on Amazon, while the 9700k sits near $320. The 9900k offers better value despite the price gap, though your Z390 UD board isn’t particularly impressive. I doubt it’s worth investing in a 9900k unless you have strong airflow over the VRMs. A more affordable option is the i7-9700f for $259 on Amazon right now. With the power limit removed on the Z390, it should handle the 9700k well for a modest budget. It will mostly run at 4.4–4.5 GHz (4.4 GHz all-core), which is about a 500 MHz boost over your 9400f’s 3.9 GHz all-core, and adds two extra cores. If you can swap the 9400f for $100, you’ll save around $160 and still get strong gaming performance compared to most Ryzen systems. A new Ryzen setup would cost well over $260.
Requesting monitor ideas doesn't matter unless you provide the details you're interested in. For the PC, @Mister Woof has got it right.
Oh sorry, forgot to add monitor specs, with a 3070 or 3080, I was hoping for around 120-144 hz at either 1080p, or 1440p with 75-120hz solid. 3-5ms response would be nice, but not needed. I get it if you don't recommend anything since this is cpu section, but anything helps.
Varies by game, yet these figures usually reflect typical outcomes
I could wait for AMD's announcement, perhaps resolving the stock problems then, and I might catch a Black Friday deal if I hold off a while.
While you could have upgraded, it didn’t happen because you didn’t secure the 9900k first place. That matter really upset you.
