Upgrade i5 7600k to 2700X?
I recently bought a 144hz 1080p monitor for gaming. It runs games smoothly on my i5, but when using the second screen for browsing or streaming, I notice stuttering and frame drops. Microcenter’s 2700x model at $129 seems like a good upgrade option. Would this be worthwhile? Also, if you switch to a Ryzen processor, would you need to upgrade your RAM as well? Your current setup includes an i5 7600K @4.5ghz, 16GB RAM, a 2666MHz ASUS Z270-P motherboard, an EVGA GTX 1080SC with water cooling.
Multitasking while gaming is ridiculous. You're not playing a game and scrolling through YouTube simultaneously. I understand this because I laughed when my son passed away while watching the other screen. I had to take away his second monitor since he was spending more time on the wrong thing than preparing for camping. Watching others play games is something you did as a child. Sorry you were treated that way. You should have gotten a controller.
Thanks for the thoughtful and detailed comment. I often overlook how others' gaming journeys shape my own. In reality, I enjoy games with moments where I pause to observe events, like during a CSGO match if I lose early.
Are you running Google Chrome? 16 gigabytes should be enough. My CPU clock runs faster than your 4771, yet my i7 has the hyperthreading. Some might think HT isn't ideal for gaming, and indeed a few games can stutter when I first launch. All I can say is I wouldn't upgrade. Others have advised me to avoid dual monitors if I want the performance they claim.
