Upgrade i5 7600 to i7 7700? Is it worth it ??
Hey everyone, I'm currently using an i5 7700 without K cooling. Over the past few weeks I've experienced occasional slowdowns while playing GTA V. After adding a second monitor and checking Task Manager, the CPU remained consistently at 100% usage. I've recently updated Windows and BIOS, but nothing has changed. I'm wondering if switching to an i7 7700 would help or if it's not worth the €350 investment. Also, note that I'm running at very high/ultra settings in GTA.
My system specs: CPU Intel Core i5 7600 4x 3.50GHz, 1151 MHz, TRAY motherboard Asus STRIX H270I, Gaming Intel H270, Dual Channel DDR4 RAM 32GB (2x 16384MB), Crucial Ballistix Sport LT DDR4-2400, Zotac GTX 1070Ti 8GB, RAM DIMM CL16-16-16, Samsung 850 PRO 2.5", case AeroCool Cylon, planned to replace with Thermalake Core P5 256GB SSD, Samsung 6.4cm SATA 6Gb/s MLC, PSU 650W Seasonic FOCUS Plus, display options including AOC C32G1 144Hz, Hydro Series H90, Razer Blackwidow X mouse, Logitech G903, Samsung 2.1 soundbar, and Windows 10 Pro.
It should likely work them, though paying 350€ for a 4C/8T CPU right now seems quite foolish. Since it's an old platform and a 4C/8T is coming from the same company at a much lower price soon, plus there are better choices like the R5 3600 available now.
Really not worth it... According to @Princess Luna, spending 350€ on an old CPU is a huge mistake. A good B450 PCIe slot costs around 120€ plus the R5 3600, and 230€ for the CPU itself. You can upgrade to a better slot and a much faster CPU for the same budget. Your existing RAM can still be used until you upgrade later to something like 3200 or 3600MHz. The included CPU cooler is sufficient. If you want to save a bit, picking an R5 2600 for 150€ is still better than the i7 7700.
