I'm looking to upgrade my i7 7700k and have a choice between three options. My gaming needs are top priority—Call of Duty, racing titles, Flight Sim2020, and some platformers like Tomb Raider or Batman. For productivity, I use virtualization, VirtualBox, 7-Zip for compression, and occasionally do light video editing. I might also set up a Plex server someday. Budget is tight, so I want the best value. If you know which CPU fits best with my current setup, I can make a quicker decision. My current rig includes an Asus Z270 Prime motherboard, Intel Core i7 7700k, RTX 2080 AIO cooler, 600W PSU, 16GB RAM (2400MHz), 256GB NVMe SSD, G-sync compatible monitor at 1440p/165Hz, and a 2TB HDD.
for cpus that are already out, it's between the 3600 for budget, 10600k/10700 for faster gaming. If you are willing to wait for zen 3 release then those are likely faster, new ram is prefered but not required, i think you'd get more from a 3080 upgrade than a cpu upgrade but don't quote me on this one.
