I experienced a drop from 10 to 8.1 with noticeable changes in game performance, CPU encoding, and idle RAM usage. Others have confirmed similar observations?
It depends on how effectively the game makes use of the operating system. For example, a title released with DX12 would likely run faster than one built for 8.1.
The distinction exists, though minor; performance in Win 10 is expected to use DirectX 12, yet very little currently relies on it.
The better option depends on what you need. 8.1 might be sufficient for basic tasks, while 10 offers more advanced features. Consider your requirements before deciding.
I'm observing the reverse direction, starting from Windows 7 up to 10, without any prior exposure to versions 8 or 8.1.
I believed it meant going from version 8.1 to 10, but now I understand. Probably I won’t allow my PC to update any time soon, lol.
Note that a feature to turn off if necessary exists. The Win10 Superfetch service is likely responsible for high memory consumption and aggressive file caching. I changed two gaming computers for friends to use Windows 10, and they function identically. Expect minimal variation between them.
