Upgrade from Windows 7 Ultimate AMD to Intel platform.
Upgrade from Windows 7 Ultimate AMD to Intel platform.
I'm changing from my AMD chip to an I5. Will it work out of the box or do I need to reset my hard drive? I'm also weighing whether to reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate or upgrade to 8.1. I like the 8.1 interface a bit, but are there any problems with games? Also, can Skype run normally in desktop mode instead of tile mode? TY
You won't need to reinstall Windows; just reactivate it. With 8.1 you can download Skype from their site and use it instead of the one in the Windows Store, and it will function identically to on Windows 7. (The Windows Store version is the tile edition)
Windows often encounters issues when changing power settings, so it’s best to reinstall or upgrade to 8.1. Games generally work fine without major problems. You can install desktop Skype.
I faced problems when changing between different AMD architectures. Performance stayed consistent, but I encountered several other issues. Luckily, I didn’t need to reactivate the system, which was a plus. It seems my hardware ID remained relatively stable.
