The title challenges the question by pointing out it might be overly simplistic. It explains the personal experience with a hardware setup six months prior, highlighting concerns about the cost of purchasing a new license versus using the free upgrade available. The author seeks clarity on whether upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11 via the free upgrade and then reinstalling results in the same functionality as a fresh installation from a USB or CD.

Upgrading the system can be simpler than replacing the entire OS, as installing Win11 and using your existing Win10 key would be more straightforward. With a linked M$ account, the process becomes even smoother. Win11 typically activates automatically during installation when you connect to the M$ account.

I knew I was forgetting something obvious. This is what I get for dealing with OS only once a decade... Thanks!
