Upgrade from I7 3770 to Ryzen 7 2700
Upgrade from I7 3770 to Ryzen 7 2700
The performance gap between certain titles is quite noticeable. When using a 2600k with a 4.7ghz OC, minimum frame rates were significantly lower—often double what you'd see with 2600/2700 chips—leading to stuttering and about a 20% drop in average frames. With newer games, especially those built on DX12, the demands have increased, making cores and threads crucial. A 6-core setup is usually needed for smooth operation. The 3770 remains decent for budget builds, but modern systems push you toward higher specs. If you opt for a 200-300$ gaming rig now, you’ll be set for future upgrades like the Ryzen 4000 when it arrives next year. Motherboards supporting AM4 (a320, b350, x370, b450, x470, x570) are reliable and widely available. Look for boards with a 100A rating—they’re generally worth the investment. You can find detailed rankings on forums; just search with "100A" for easy comparisons.
Thanks for your response. Your clarification helped a lot. The Ryzen model you mentioned has two damaged pins, and I’ve already tried using it but it won’t start. I’m considering replacing it with a secondhand 30€ Gigabyte GA-A320M S2H V2. Is that a good plan? I’d borrow some DDR4 RAM from a friend and use my power supply to test it. My approach is to connect two pins from an old AMD CPU and see if they can make contact. Linus has a video showing how he did this successfully. If it starts up, I’d go ahead and buy the RAM and keep the cheap motherboard until I really need an upgrade.
You might consider starting with an inexpensive A320, though I wouldn’t try it on that board right now—I’m not entirely confident. Are the pins fully severed and not just bent? If they’re only bent, it’s usually fixable on most Ryzen processors with the proper tools and care. TechYesCity did a video about this, but I think it might not be directly relevant since you’re referring to them being 'broken off.'
The most dangerous outcome depends on the damage, but using a motherboard with severe issues can cause permanent harm. If components are completely broken off, it may lead to system instability or failure. Always ensure proper installation and compatibility.
The power supply and VRMs are extremely weak. Is this the worst scenario? After running the PC under heavy load for some time, one of the VRMs fails instantly—literally explodes. This shouldn’t damage other parts but will destroy the board. It’s not advised to use it with an 8-core processor.
This alters everything you mentioned it wouldn't post. Which platform are we talking about? Do you understand if that board functions properly?
I have a 3770 that really sounds great, but I'll bring up these issues sooner next time.
