I’ve switched to newer games and noticed performance issues in MSI Afterburner. RAM hits 95%, CPU stays at full speed, and GPU usage drops to 50-60%. This leads to stuttering, low frame rates, and breaks immersion. You’re wondering if you should wait for the upcoming AMD CPUs or upgrade now. Your current setup runs at 1440p 60Hz with an i5-4460, 8GB RAM, DDR3 storage, and a GTX 1660 Super. You’re considering moving to a 3700x CPU, 16GB RAM, DDR4, more SSDs, and possibly a new GPU. Long story short—what’s the best move?

Always there’s something ahead, you could miss out on upgrades if you wait for the next big update. If possible, definitely upgrade to better Mbps and 3600 RAM.

If the rumors hold, the Ryzen 4000 will likely arrive in September. Honestly, if you have extra memory slots and aren’t swapping out parts, consider adding more RAM. 4GB or 8GB of DDR3 should be very affordable compared to a full system overhaul. You might be experiencing lag because your RAM is insufficient and the swap file is being used too much. In my experience, if over 80% of your RAM is in use, an upgrade makes sense. New components are always better, so if you can afford it and want them, go ahead! No regret for buying.

Ryzen prefers quick RAM, the difference won't be huge but it will exist. For a budget model, what price are you aiming for? Something around B450 Tomahawk would make more sense. As mentioned before, the Ryzen 4000 is a good choice, though you can always wait for something better. Edited April 12, 2020 by noxdeouroboros
