Upgrade from 5600 to 5800x in three days?
Recently, I've observed that newer titles like BF6 keep my CPU at full capacity most of the time. Would an upgrade to an 8-core AM4 (from 5700 to 5800x3d) make a difference? Or is it better to invest in a full platform upgrade to AM5? Given current RAM prices, it doesn't seem very attractive. I mainly play Overwatch, which runs easily, but have been playing BF6 and Star Citizen—both of which struggle with high settings. It might not matter much if I'm using 1440p and have a 32GB RAM system with an SSD for gaming.
The system's performance has decreased since 1440P. The gameplay configurations are available, and the RAM is a specific brand and model number.
I generally stick to the optimized configurations with minimal resource usage, then add high-quality textures since performance impact is limited. I don’t recall my exact RAM amount—Hyper X Fury is on my mind—but most of my setup dates back to 2021 (excluding the CPU). I’m curious if upgrading the CPU would improve my low frame rates; I can handle 60fps for SC, but it keeps stuttering likely because of CPU limits.
This configuration really boosts performance in low-end setups with extra cores and the 3D VCache. It's a bit pricey, but it's cheaper than upgrading to an AM5 chip.
A 3d chip would definitely be beneficial. Most games already run on two or more cores, so adding more cores alone wouldn't make a huge difference. I switched from a 3600 to a 5800x3d a while back and was really let down by that Wunderchip—it's faster than the 3600, but only about 5% so to speak, and not in every title. For instance, with ROTTR and the right settings, both CPUs stay at full capacity, which might improve low-end performance a bit, though it's barely noticeable. My 3600 is already a strong chip by itself; just a little tuning turned it into a 130W powerhouse xD.
Mostly other than Star Citizen, the rest usually runs around 80% of its capacity. That might be because I’m using fewer textures. My CPU seems to be the least expensive option right now, without needing a full platform overhaul or a new GPU.
These results aren’t as good as expected, but I’ll remember it. Should I proceed with the upgrade first?
