You're considering upgrading to 64-bit because it allows more than 4 gigabytes of RAM. However, unless your system already exceeds that amount, the benefit might not be worth the effort. It's wise to back up your data, even if you don't make any changes. Losing a single drive could erase everything on it. For now, using an external drive for backups seems like a safer option.

Upgrade to a 64-bit version since some systems don’t work well on your PC. You already have 8GB of RAM. Regarding Best Buy, they might allow you to purchase an external SSD, install a new OS, and then return the device if needed.
