Upgrade form 3100 to version 3700X
I've been eager for 5800X or 5900X models to arrive, but they haven't shown up yet. My machine runs a 3100 and is generally stable. It's mainly used for Photoshop, Capture One, Lightroom, and light video editing—rarely plays games. I'm wondering if the 5800X will drop to $450 when it's available. I found a brand new 3700X locally for $330. Is the 5800X worth $120 more for better productivity? Should I hold off? My daily usage spans 4 to 18 hours, and my specs are listed here.
It seems you're comfortable with a 3700X, and I also had one with a 5800X but didn't see a big difference. I'd recommend the 3700X for you, or even the 3900X if it's more affordable in your area—it could suit your needs better.
When earning from productivity efforts, the 5000 series offers solid value despite the added expense. Alternatively, purchasing the 3700x can serve as a temporary solution. If it's purely for enjoyment, the 3700x remains reasonable. Remember that prices have risen to $330 in the US compared to about six months ago.
