Upgrade Discussion: LGA 1151 Socket
Upgrade Discussion: LGA 1151 Socket
Hello, I’m not very comfortable with computers, but I think I have some general knowledge. I have a question: can my motherboard, ASRock H310CM-DVS, fit an i9 9900K processor? I’ve seen some spec sheets suggesting it’s possible, but I’m not sure and want to be certain before spending over £400 on something that might not work. That could be a real disappointment. What do you think? I’d really appreciate your advice and any suggestions you have. I just hope I make the right decision. Also, thanks for your help!
It supports BIOS version 4.10 and later. But using this CPU on the board would be a poor choice since the H310 chipset doesn’t allow overclocking to maximize an unlocked "K" processor, and its weak VRM likely can’t handle an 8-core CPU even at default speeds.
Sure thing. Thanks for the kind words. I wouldn’t have gone for that i9-9900k if I had. Appreciate it, and enjoy the rest of the year! Maybe we’ll see each other again soon. 😊
If I were you, I’d replace the whole setup with a B660 board and an i5-12400 chip. It would match the performance of the 9900K and likely cost a similar amount, unless you discovered an excellent price on the old i9.
