I need to upgrade my Dell Inspiron 1545. I have a Pentium T4200 and am unsure about adding a quad-core CPU. Also, I’m looking into an 8GB RAM upgrade with DDR2. Any suggestions on compatible parts or places to buy them?

It's likely the CPU is permanently attached and can't be replaced.

It can get a boost, it’s quite outdated—do you know if any quad-core options are available? I’m open to a BIOS upgrade.

There don't seem to be quad-core CPUs compatible with motherboards. You might be able to fit two 4GB RAM sticks together for an 8GB total, though DDR2 might not be a good choice. The CPU isn't permanently attached to the Inspiron 1545—it uses a socket-based design.

The laptop's CPUs are quite old by today's standards, so consider this before investing in newer parts. It was a basic model launched in 2009 and wasn't meant to be powerful.

The p8600 appears to function, but switching between them is inefficient. It’s still a slow machine, so it’s better to upgrade to a newer or refurbished one. You can find good options for around $100.
