I'm new to Debian/Linux and installed Debian but don't like it. I found that you can switch the desktop to Cinnamon. I tried following the instructions at the link you shared, but some commands didn't work. I entered them exactly as they were. Anyone have another method?

Log out; input your username and locate the settings or options icon, then adjust the desktop to Cinnamon.

This command is almost the final version. It installed X server components and fonts, but the package manager didn't show Cinnamon as an option—just GNOME or GNOME Classic.

Using the $ su Password helped earlier, but it seems like the terminal is still showing a running process. Please consider waiting a bit longer.

It's finished, displays a $, then restart it and you should be fine.

That's correct! The dollar sign isn't displaying properly.
