To wait for 7950x3d or buy intel i9 39700k paired with a 4090? I recently purchased a TUF 4090 and currently have it running with my old amd 3700x so im needing to upgrade just don't know if I should stick with amd or go back to intel. I do plan to use pc for some work related things so I could put extra cores to use but it is after all primary my gaming rig. I really just want the best out of my 4090.

Well, 7950x3d ratings are just around the corner in eight days, so keep an eye on reviews. I’m hoping for a 13900k instead of the 39700k, which might be a decade away. I had to replace my 9900k (a bit faster than 3700x) because it couldn’t keep up with my RTX 4080. I bought the 7700x and I’m really satisfied with it. I’m planning to upgrade to a X3D later, probably when they release the 9800X3D in a few years or so. Yes, definitely look for a newer CPU to match your 4090. But wait for the reviews.

It might help to slow down, I’m almost there but still a long way off. One thing is clear—I can’t handle this 3700x anymore.

Wait for the 7950X3D unless you require a new CPU immediately.

Completely clear. My [email protected] and RTX 4080 caused a lot of stutter. Metro Exodus / Tiny Tina's Wonderland was too slow to play, so I switched it quickly. With the 7700x I’m completely free of stutter and the performance is amazing (even better average frames). In Hell Let Loose I went from 110-120fps to an incredible 260fps just by adjusting the CPU—I was really limited. Both systems had 32gb RAM. Just keep waiting a few more days, it’ll work!

If you have the budget for a 4090, you should aim for the most powerful gaming CPU available. Right now, the 13900KS is expected to be the top choice, though I think X3D chips might surpass it.
