I built this system in 2018 and am considering an upgrade. The CPU is Intel Core i5-9600K, the motherboard is Gigabyte Z390 UD ATX LGA1151, I have G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB DDR4-2666 CL15 memory, an RTX 2070 graphics card, a 1440p 165Hz monitor. Since I play at 1440p 165Hz, should I upgrade the GPU or CPU? With a limited budget, I want to maximize value and stretch my money. My current setup includes a bundle with an i5-12600KF, MSI Z790-P Pro WiFi LGA 1700 motherboard, and TeamGroup 32 GB DDR4-3200 PC4-25600 CL16 for $266. Would it be better to spend around that amount on the GPU instead? I’m worried about possible bottlenecks.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer! What kind of titles will you apply to the system? If you choose the processor mentioned above, check the K SKU because the iGPU can be useful when dealing with discrete GPU problems. How much have you planned for either a platform upgrade or a GPU upgrade? You didn't mention the make and model of your PSU—it's essential to know that so you're not left without options.

266 won't significantly boost performance beyond an RTX 2070. The RTX 2070 is comparable to the RTX 3060 and RX6600 models in price range. A RX7600 could offer a minor upgrade, but used RTX 3080 or 3080 Ti options exist, though they carry some risks. Which games are you having trouble with?
