Upgrade CPU cooler for HP pre-built systems.
Hi everyone, I recently purchased an HP Elitedesk 800 G4 TWR WS with an i7 8700 as a gaming PC for college use. After upgrading the graphics card and storage, I’m pleased with its performance—just a bit concerned about the noise level. The CPU fan tends to be quite loud, so I’m considering a basic tower cooler to swap out the current heatsink. However, since it’s a prebuilt unit, I’m unsure if it uses a standard LGA 1151 socket or a custom setup and cooler. I’d love to know if anyone has experience replacing the CPU cooler for this model and what they found. Thanks!
Hard to say. Certain HP coolers rely on a standard backplate that can be swapped out, though removing it from the board might be tricky. Others feature screw holes for direct mounting, meaning they’re not very durable.
