Upgrade Bitdefender BOX 2 to include a modem, router, and Wi-Fi extension?
Plan is to enhance my WiFi configuration. I need assistance installing it. Connecting a modem to the Bitdefender BOX 2 with a router is required. My home is extremely long—about 85 feet by 60 feet. Signal strength drops significantly the farther you move from the center. I plan to add a security system, including cameras and a doorbell. I need easy access to monitor connected devices. My current setup is disorganized and lacks this feature. Main concern is compatibility with WiFi Range Extensions for stronger coverage at the edges. Any suggestions on modems, routers, or range extenders that work well with Bitdefender BOX 2?
I own the Nighthawk CAX80 and I strongly suggest it over my previous router/modem from Arris. They also offer a Netgear Armor plan priced around $40 per year, which provides similar protection to a Bitdefender Box. The cost is significantly lower, and I haven’t experienced any problems with the Armor subscription so far.
I previously used BitDefender Box 2 at both my home and my grandparent’s residence. It remains at my grandparent’s place, but I won’t renew the service. There isn’t a compatible mesh extender for it. You’re restricted to conventional range extenders, which rarely include a dedicated uplink radio. This forces you into configurations that fragment your network and hinder seamless IoT connectivity. These options aren’t ideal since they achieve internet extension but complicate device integration. My main suggestion is switching to Netgear Orbi or Netgear Nighthawk, paired with the Netgear Armor plan—similar in function to Bitdefender Box yet more affordable. It still offers Bitdefender-level security. Both Orbi and Nighthawk support mesh networking. If you prefer wired connections over mesh or wireless uplinks, it’s strongly advised. If you prefer not to fully replace the Box 2, you can turn off its built-in Wi-Fi and install a dedicated AP system such as Unifi, Engenius, or TPLink Omada. These provide their own mesh solutions and individual APs costing $100–$200 each based on speed needs. One AP connects to the Box while others use wired or wireless links to it.
The Nighthawk CAX80 is the appropriate router. Netgear Armor continues to receive updates today.
You're being asked about choosing between two Netgear products, the Nighthawk Smart Wi-Fi Router and the Orbi model. It seems you're unsure which specific version of the Orbi you need because you don’t have any Ethernet connections and are trying to connect one yourself. You might want to look up details like the exact model number, features, compatibility, and installation steps for each product to make an informed decision.
