Upgrade BIOS without changing the CPU model.
Upgrade BIOS without changing the CPU model.
Hello. I'm a new user. Could you tell me if it's possible to upgrade the BIOS on an Asus Prime x570-pro motherboard without installing a CPU? I've heard that some boards can be flashed with BIOS updates independently of the CPU. Also, would you like to know about a cool video covering this subject?
Are there any motherboards that allow Q-flash or similar features using a USB flash drive port? They can be installed without requiring a CPU, though some users might face problems or uncertainty about functionality—so keep the USB plugged in for longer if needed. Ideally, they should have power and a display. Certain models may have compatibility issues depending on BIOS settings and CPU choices, making some setups difficult. Since your board is pricier, it should work well as long as you use the right BIOS and files exactly as specified (the correct file name matters).
The motherboard lacks a dedicated USB port for BIOS updates. The manual suggests connecting it via any USB port and using only the BIOS file on the stick, as was done before. Thanks for your help—I'll look into it and have a backup plan if needed. I'm planning to get a 5900X or 5800X based on availability.
It's possible the BIOS was updated during its development. If it fails or doesn't function properly, especially when COVID cases drop or in your area, you might visit a nearby electronics shop or repair center for a quick BIOS update. This isn't the most convenient solution, but it could be an alternative.
This module lacks BIOS Flashback functionality. It requires a specific button on the rear I/O and separate USB ports for this feature.
