Upgrade BIOS using a USB drive or QFlash tool for the Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Master with an i7-13700K processor.
Hey there, Max. I just got my new motherboard and noticed it’s a Z690 model instead of the Z790. I was planning to update the BIOS before installing my CPU. I saved the latest BIOS file as "GIGABYTE.BIN" and copied it onto a FAT32 USB drive. After connecting my beQuiet power supply, I powered on the system. Four lights came up: the power button, a small LED showing CPU issues (which makes sense since the CPU wasn’t installed), and two back buttons labeled Qflash and CMOS delete. Pressing Qflash didn’t work—it kept flashing without doing anything. I tested four different USB drives but the issue persisted. I also tried plugging it in before or after startup, even using the second newest BIOS version, but nothing changed. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks ahead,
Max
Attempted a different flash storage? This method resembles older USB2 connections if you have one. Was the device prepared with FAT32 formatting? Are extensions concealed in Windows settings? Often this leads to unexpected names like GIGABYTE.bin.bin. If none works, you'll likely need another flash drive.
Hello, I experimented with four distinct options, each saved in FAT32 format prior to use. Although I conceal the file extensions, it still displays as GIGABYTE instead of a standard extension. All four USB devices I tested are compatible with USB 2.0.
That’s a creative idea! Just consider purchasing a budget 12th generation processor and reselling it once the BIOS upgrade is complete.
I think the system attempted to restart or boot after turning on the power, but it can't update the BIOS anymore. The best approach was to gently hold the power button while shutting it down. After that, the standard Qflash worked. I’m expecting to get my RAM tomorrow and will update you once everything is running smoothly.
I intended to use the identical motherboard and processor, any updates would be useful
