I’m planning to install Windows 8.1 soon and was curious about whether I can still get the one-year free upgrade to Windows 10 once it launches, since activation will happen after Windows 10’s release.

Eventually, you'll be able to purchase Windows 10 directly from retailers as it becomes more widely available.
