Upgrade am4 socket... from 955 to 1100t
You're considering switching from a quad-core to a hex-core processor. The new chipsets are available for around $200, and you're thinking about whether it's worth the upgrade despite an older chipset. Many people believe that a hex-core can offer better performance, especially if you need more processing power for multitasking or demanding applications.
I’m not in the mood to upgrade my motherboard. I’d prefer to push my AM3 to its limit.
Unless the board backs FX-6300 or FX-8300, just move on because Phenom II doesn't have the latest instruction sets for many games and programs!
200$ for an 1100t? That seems like an extremely low price. It doesn’t justify the cost at all. There’s nothing valuable about the am3 socket. You could easily find a used office Dell on eBay with a first-gen i7 and it would outperform it completely. A second-gen i7 is even better, they’re not close to being comparable anymore. Just avoid this. What are you aiming for? It won’t help much because these components are outdated. Even the top CPUs from that era lack many instructions, making it impossible to run modern games or even some software.
You're aiming for smooth 4K video playback, and it sounds like your system needs more processing power than just the GPU can provide.
