Hello, I am new here. I have searched the NET extensively regarding upgrades. Yet I turn to you. I have a Intel i7-7700K / Z270 mark 2 / 32Gb DDR4 RAM 2133 Mhz / 2Tb HDD / 480 SSD rig. I recently upgraded to RTX 3080 from GTX 1080 and from 700 W to 1000 W Corsair PSU. I was looking to upgrading my motherboard. Question no 1 - if I change from Intel to AMD morherboard, could I keep the same RAM and SSD, or should I change everything? Question no 2 - what would be the best configuration for full RTX pottential?
If your finances are limited, you can retain the RAM temporarily while planning an upgrade later. Expect reduced speed, which should be obvious, but the system will still function well and represent a significant improvement over your existing setup. You might also attempt to increase the RAM speed. It could reach 2400, offering a modest 12.5% enhancement. Choosing AMD instead of Intel would mean opting for a 5800X or 5900X as the top gaming CPU right now. The 5600X may perform adequately but could lag behind the 3080 in several titles. The 5950X is excessive and the benefit would be better used for the RAM upgrade. Although AMD is expected to release new processors soon, you might want to hold off. Even with a final decision for the 5000 series, you could secure a discount once the newer models launch.
