Updating your Windows login with a PIN just method.
Hello everyone, I'm looking into the same problem as in this discussion. Previously, I had a very short Windows password but later made it longer and added a PIN for login. Now I need to change my password again, but I'm unsure how. Since they're asking for my old password, is there a simpler way around this? Would it require booting into Linux or using some other method?
Sure, you're fine with it working as is. Just need a new password without having to reinstall everything again—doesn't seem like the simplest solution.
You must use the Microsoft website's "Forget my password" feature to reset your password. This process is only available for local accounts. If you have a Microsoft account and prefer not to manage online purchases or rentals in Windows 8/10, especially without encryption (Pro edition) or backup files, you can transfer your data by moving your HDD/SSD to another system, extracting the necessary files, applying the decryption certificate if available, and then reinstalling Windows. Remember to save your password securely this time.
The file is quite outdated. On your Windows 10 system, the path to System32 isn't visible in the directory listing, even though it appears in the list.
