Updating your Mac OS installation.
Updating your Mac OS installation.
I recently purchased a 2009 8 Core Mac Pro at a low price, but the previous owner removed the hard drives—a reasonable choice since it was from a recording studio. Now I need to reinstall Mac OS on a brand-new SSD I just bought, which is quite challenging if I don’t have another Mac. My family uses MacBooks that run newer operating systems than the 2009 model supports. I attempted to create a bootable USB using Transmac; it works and boots, but after loading the system I encounter an error message. I understand this isn’t ideal, especially since most people don’t like Macs (and I don’t either, though I couldn’t resist the price). Do you have alternative options for installing Mac OS, or would I need to buy a questionable bootable USB from eBay? The Mac functions correctly now, running Ubuntu, but one CPU reaches around 90°C while the other stays near 60°C.
I'll download it and see if it works. If my internet acts up, I might get a functional Mac today! Thanks a lot!
You own a 4,1 MacPro with two CPU sockets. This setup could be one of the finest systems Apple ever created! Upgrade its firmware to achieve EUFI like a 5,1, then fit two 6-core Xeon processors inside. Thermal problems can be fixed by applying new thermal paste.
I’m ready to move forward with this plan. The thermal paste should arrive tomorrow, and I’ll install the 6-core processor once I secure a good price. I’m also planning to add more RAM soon, which will help with performance. It’s great that the system came for a low price—£30 was a smart choice!
I initially wanted only the case since I believe it’s the most attractive one ever made. I found a defective version that kept freezing and purchased it for £30. Upon receiving it, I cleaned it thoroughly and it passed a 16-thread stress test for a full day without issues—only the 90°C temperature caused minor problems that are easily resolved. They removed all the RAM, but overlooked the heatsink, so I swapped a stick from the second bank into the first. Running it with 2GB of RAM has become quite challenging, though it was acceptable for testing purposes. It seems the previous owner was a typical Apple user who didn’t realize computers need cooling to function properly. Thank you for your help—I’m hoping it works now as it’s consuming me heavily right now.
